Company Sponsorship and Tuition Reimbursement

Company (or third-party) sponsored billing is a method by which an entity such as your company, corporation, or government agency can be invoiced directly on your behalf.

This process removes the need for you to make an interim payment between the Payment Arrangement Deadline and when your company issues payment to Rice University.

First, let's distinguish between company sponsorship and company reimbursement:

  • Company Sponsorship is where your employer pays all or a portion of each semester's tuition and fees directly to Rice University. In such cases, the University Cashier's Office will post a placeholder on your account in the amount promised each semester.
  • Company Reimbursement is where your employer promises to repay you for your out-of-pocket tuition and fees expenditures after class grades post. In this case, you must make funding or payment arrangements upfront. Please reference Billing & Payments and the Funding Resources sections for more information.
STEP 1:

Please proceed to the University Cashier's Office Third Party/Sponsored Payments page.

  • Provide the the Third Party/Sponsored Payment Instructions to your employer.
  • Return your letter of sponsorship to Rice University Cashier's Office (cashier@rice.edu / 713.348.4946).
STEP 2:

Invoicing
Rice University Cashier's Office will invoice your company each applicable term.

Account Placeholder
A placeholder in the amount expected will be posted to your ESTHER student account. If there is a remaining balance due, please make funding or payment arrangements by the Payment Arrangement Deadlines (please see the Billing & Payments and/or the Student Loans sections).

Although you will be able to see the total charges on your student account each term, if your employer requires for you to submit an itemized breakdown (tuition charge per course), you can submit a request and we will provide you with the appropriate documentation.
